Coming in July

kathleen Dupuis - Sunday, June 23, 2013
Savannah Riverfront • July 4th-7th
July will be a great month in Savannah.  We'll start off with a bang, literally.  Fireworks will light up the night on the fourth.  Friday will feature Burger Battle where local burger barons will go head to head.  No matter the results, we win.  Throughout the weekend there will be music in the air with live bands.  Celebrate America's birthday the way the founders would have if they could: with amazing burgers.

Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure • July 26th

Take the little ones to a live Disney show and let Mickey and Minnie do the rest.  All your favorite characters from Disney Juniors series will be there including: Sofia the First and Jake and the Never Land Pirates.  Cinderella and Peter Pan will make appearances.  Special pre-show with Doc McStuffins.

Savannah Sand Gnats
What's summer without baseball?  The Savannah Sands are our local team and a farm team for the New York Mets.  The Sand Gnats have all sorts of fun promotions going on all the time.  From $1 days to BOGO beers to Kid's Eat Free.  Reasonably priced, the Gnats are fun for the whole family.

In the Kitchen with Kathleen

kathleen Dupuis - Thursday, June 20, 2013
KathleenThere's not a much better to wake up in the morning than to the smell of breakfast and coffee.  Not many of us get to experience the joy of walking downstairs and fluffy omelets greeting us at the table, but it happens daily here at The Olde Savannah Inn.  The friendly innkeeper, Kathleen is not a professionally trained chef, but you'd never know it.  She grew up cooking, trying out recipes, and even enlisting the neighbors to try her dishes.  Kathleen's perfectionist nature had her experimenting until it was perfect.

As she cooked to the sounds of smooth jazz, I saw fresh fruit and vegetables being sliced.  Nothing canned here.  Only fresh ingredients here.  Nearby lies a French press gently creating coffee that's smooth and rich.  I sat down at the table glancing at the beautiful view of the garden to my left.  With knife and fork, I cut into the omelet and began to eat.  The soft egg melts alongside the warm and creamy goat cheese. Tomatoes add bright notes, balancing the omelet.  Truly an enjoyable experience.

Savannah in the Movies

kathleen Dupuis - Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Everyone loves a good movie.  They have the ability to take their audience into another world.  Instantly you leave your world and are taken on a new adventure.  Movies are fascinating pieces of art.  Movie-makers have seen the beauty of Savannah and want that in their films.  In fact, Savannah is welcoming Medient Studios who will be building a $90 million studio in our backyard.   Savannah’s unique look makes it perfect for filming.

Not until the 1970’s did movies become popular to film in Savannah.  One of the first movies filmed here was Cape Fear in 1962.  Savannah has actually been featured in over 46 films.  Some of the more popular movies are as follows: The Conspirator, The Last Song, The Legend of Bagger Vance, The General’s Daughter, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Something to Talk About, and Forrest Gump.
The beautiful scenery that Savannah had to offer these films are historic downtown, the beach, train stations, parks, rivers, The Globe, the Talmadge Bridge, and historic forts.  Its all waiting here for you.  Come experience Savannah to see where these stories told or to make a story yourself.
