Seafoodfest on the River, May 3-5

There are so many great things that will be happening in Savannah in May.  I just want to tell you a few so you will trust me when I say that you will not be bored in Savannah.  Things kick off right with on the first weekend with seafood. . .lots of seafood.  Savannah Riverfront presents Seafoodfest on the River starting at noon.  In Savannah, we enjoy fresh seafood all the time, but that won't keep us from having a big festival about it.  We're going to be chowing down on gumbo, shrimp, low country boil, oysters, crab legs, and much more.

Savannah's Scottish Games, May 11

Many are familiar with our spectacular St. Patrick's Day celebration, but what most don't know is that we also have a great event celebrating the Scottish in us.  May 11th is Savannah's Scottish Games.  The games feature activities dating back 1,000 years.  There will be feats of strength, graceful dancing, musical entertainment, and mini versions for the kiddies.

Coastal Wetlands Day, May 21

We don't just have the sea, we are also the home of some amazingly beautiful wetlands.  The 21st is Coastal Wetlands Day.  Georgia's slice of the coast possesses one third of Atlantic's salt marsh.  Oatland Island Wildlife Center will be celebrating the day with valuable insights into the local ecosystem.  The best part is that its 100% free to come.

Savannah Fashion Week

Kevin Cartee, Image Consultant/Wardrobe Stylist

When you think of Savannah one conjures up many thoughts; Antebellum homes, moss, and even Paula Deen. However, something you may not have thought about is Savannah's rich and growing fashion and style community.

In the heart of Savannah, Savannah College of Art and Design as well as Savannah Arts Academy certainly keep the Savannah Fashion Community teaming with new talent.

Savannah is certainly proud of her Art Schools. “Georgia’s First City” also brags about the many artists and fashion professionals such as Makeup Artists, Hair Stylist, Image Consultants & Wardrobe Stylists, and Boutique Owners.

Savannah Fashion Week runs from 4/22/13 – 4/26/13 and showcases events, such as trunk shows and runway shows, that run throughout the week.

What is a “Trunk Show”? Well, I’m glad you asked.

A trunk show is an event where designers or clothing vendors set up a “pop up shop” in a store or other venue. These vendors sell clothes directly to customers.

If you are a “friend of fashion” and plan to visit Savannah, GA during Fashion Week, I would love to offer you the schedule of events – my treat.

Friday April 26, 2013

The SID Fashion Show is sure to end Savannah Fashion Week with a bang.

Savannah Style Expert Style Tip:

Women: Ladies look out for dresses with a built in bib necklace. I find that everywhere I go these and dresses/tops with a peplum skirt are very popular.

Men: Gents keep your eyes peeled for bow ties and mixing and matching patterns. It’s a little thing I like to call “Enjoy the Clash.” This year, it’s okay that your outfit does not coordinate perfectly. It is all about finding complementing colors and in the same family and then kicking your outfit up a notch with different patterns and textures.

Savannah is like a childhood Fairytale : Make your dreams come true...

March, April and May are the most beautiful season to see the most enchanting city of the South. This majestic city and it's towering grand oaks and draping Spanish moss creates the most romantic getaway and you can't beat the weather. Other parts of the country are still getting snow but not Savannah...Spring season is here ...Come see the azelas and magnolia trees at full bloom and make sure you go to Boneventure Cemetary, Wormsloe Plantation, and Tybee Island...A must see...Stunning...

I am a native of Boston and when I first moved to Savannah in 2005, I went to Boneventure Cemetary for the first time and I lost my breath. I had never seen such a beautiful cememtary and all it's grand monuments gracing the entire property. I had heard that the famous song writer Johnny Mercer was buried there and I had to find his grave.  I was so excited to see all the famous legends of Savannah...I could have spent the entire day just walking and gaining all of Savannah's History...After seeing the cenmetary, I decided to visit Wormsloe Plantation...Wow! This prestigious property is situated on 40 acres of grand oaks cascading spanish moss draping the entire property. If that isn't enough, take a stroll to Tybee Island and see how slow and easy life should be. The Southern lifestyle is much more relaxing and tranquil with nature settings and a tropical breeze welcoming you to it's island living. This is living at it's BEST...

While you are visiting Tybee Island, let's not forget The Crab Shack and Uncle Bubba's....I love the atmosphere of the Crab Shack, you can feed the alligators and be a kid again. Sit on the deck and watch the seagulls ...enjoying a Low Country lunch sitting by the seashore with the locals talking about what to see and do in Savannah.

Another great spot to have a simple lunch is Tubby's in Thunderbolt, on the way to Tybee Island.  You could spend the entire day just strolling the island and bird watching and you have to see the Tybee Light House...A popular Wedding Destination for the Savannah bride and groom...If you are looking for a Romantic Getaway....Look no further...Savannah has one of the largest Historic Districts  in the US. For those who have always dreamed of that fairytale wedding, make your dreams come true by staying in the most beautiful and amazing Savannah Bed and Breakfast, The Olde Savannah Inn.  all your dreams will come true. Be good to yourself and Book Now! This is the Best time of the year to see Savannah at it's Best. See you soon, Kathleen
